No Means No Programs

The primary objectives of our programS are:

  • To increase girls’ skills in assertiveness and boundary setting by developing the verbal and physical skills they need to defend themselves and escape when facing sexual assault

  • To increase boys’ gender-equitable attitudes, and provide skills to recognize violence and to intervene when they witness violence against others

  • To increase disclosure among boys and girls who are survivors of sexual violence and ensure that they are referred to services they need

No Means No Curricula and Training Programs include:

  • Training and certification for female and male Instructors to deliver our curricula effectively

  • Empowerment self-defense training for girls ages 10-19

  • Positive masculinity and bystander intervention training for boys ages 10-19

  • Technical support for partners including research monitoring and evaluation, program management, and network referral design

How It Works

NMNW trains highly skilled local mentors as No Means No Instructors, certified to teach the skills-based curriculum, facilitate meaningful discussion, and provide referrals for additional services when needed. Instructors work under the management of local implementing partners and are from the communities they serve, in order to ensure that programs are locally relevant, culturally appropriate, and sustainable.

“The trained beneficiaries are using the skills to defend themselves…The girls are more confident and assertive and because of the program gender-based violence cases reduced in the sub counties where we operated.”
— Staff member at implementing partner MUCOBADI in Uganda
